Micro-Community Concept

More than any other single feature, what sets the New Road School of Somerset apart from other private special education facilities is our distinctive Micro-Community. Right within our very own walls, we have re-created a miniature town, replete with town square, town fountain, and community gazebo. The school’s hallways use street names, like Lincoln Avenue and Administration Circle. Students daily traverse Uptown, Downtown, and everything in between. The Student Council’s president is elected the Town Council’s mayor. And our Main Street is lined with over 35 businesses, restaurants, and shops housed within colorful and inviting storefronts. Basically, our Micro-Community mimics every aspect of a real-life traditional community under one roof, and it is in this dynamic and welcoming setting that our students learn about real life in real, practical ways.
