A Starry Night at New Road School of Parlin Prom

May 18, 2007

Friday evening, May 18th, 2007, students gleaming and dressed in their finest arrived at school for the prom. The students were greeted by New Road staff that presented them with a corsage or boutonniere to wear for the evening.  Students were then ushered to our photography room where they posed under a beautiful balloon arch for a photograph.

Students entered the prom room through an arch of blinking stars. Their eyes lit up as they walked in and looked around at the decorations. Hundreds of stars hung from the ceiling were twinkling down on them.  The tables were set with beautiful purple and silver balloon center pieces. The DJ played some of their favorite music and the latest hits.  It didn’t take much encouragement to get everyone up dancing until dinner was served.

Many prom goers were not hungry after hors d'oevres, but most appreciated the Italian buffet. Dessert featured luscious homemade cakes decorated in the most incredibly beautiful way, homemade lollipops, trays of small cakes, cookies, and brownies, and an ice cream bar.

The night seemed to end too soon and parents began arriving to pick up students. Each student was given a surprise goody bag upon leaving.  Inside was an album for pictures, a decorated lollipop, and a beautifully engraved High Road frame with a picture of themselves under the balloon arch. What a lasting remembrance of a beautiful night!

This event was made possible by our dedicated staff at New Road School. The staff planned decorated, donated clothes and lights, baked, served and cleaned. Almost everyone participated in some way to make this a special event. It was a wonderful evening under the stars at the New Road School of Parlin!
