Parlin New Road Students Join Ironmen for “Healthy Kids Day” Activity
February 21, 2008
On February 21st about twenty select New Road students from our Parlin School and six staff members were guests of the New Jersey Ironmen for their Indoor Soccer League game against the California Cougars. The game was held at 11 a.m. at the brand new Prudential Center in Newark and part of the “Healthy Kids Day”, an event surrounded by educational programming relative to fitness and nutrition. The Mayor of Newark, Corey A. Booker, spoke about the value of exercise before an audience that included several thousand enthusiastic school children. An audience nutrition quiz was held during the game and televised on the large replay screen in the arena. The first student to be tested and who answered his question correctly under intense pressure was our own Jacob Patterson! All of our students enjoyed the soccer game to the fullest and were impressed by the personal greeting they received by the Ironmen staff and the nutritional meal and drink provided at half-time. The Ironmen won the game 16-8. The soccer was spectacular with several sensational goals. The mascot, IronDog, and the Ironmen Dance Team also provided top-notch entertainment. Too bad Tony Meola, the New Jersey born Ironmen goalie received a bloody nose on his birthday. He did play a great game. Many thanks to all who participated and to the students who made our school so proud of them. A special thanks to Mrs. Sax who coordinated the program.
