Curriculum
Each New Road School works with its local education system to provide the curriculum necessary to follow the path to high school graduation. We provide our students with a variety of supplemental curriculum based on the individual assessed needs of the student.
Language Arts
An essential tool to help each student continue the process of life-long learning is reading. Our teachers employ a variety of reading, spelling, and writing methodologies to help the student establish this most basic foundation. Because students with disabilities often have difficulties in these areas, our teachers work closely with them to help them decode, comprehend, and construct written language. As a motivational technique, we encourage students to select study subjects — favorite authors, special activities, hobbies — of personal interest to them. Our teachers incorporate these choices into each student's curriculum.
Mathematics
In math, the students learn computation skills followed by problem-solving applications. We guide the students along this skills-application sequence, gradually introducing them to more demanding material. At every age, we emphasize those math applications that are particularly important for the child with special needs, such as time management and personal finance.
The New Road Schools offer a wealth of curriculum and a flexibility in instruction that are not always available in the public school setting
