Counseling and Social Work Services

Social work professionals are on staff at all New Road Schools and provide critical support for students' social and emotional needs, and work collaboratively with teachers and families to address mental health and behavioral concerns, provide academic and classroom support, and provide individual and group counseling and therapy. Our social work staff also assist families with establishing linkages with other services in the community that may facilitate healthy growth and development.

Clinical Behavior Supports

All New Road Schools have Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) available to support the learning and behavioral needs of our students. Consulting BCBA's are available at Somerset and Ocean, and Parlin has a BCBA certified psychologist on staff.

BCBA professionals work with students, and counseling and social work staff to develop, implement and evaluate Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) programs targeted for the individual student. New Road Schools use only positive behavioral approaches and behavior management techniques.

Families are also integral members of our collaborative behavior support team, and school professionals are available to ensure that your child will use his or her new skills at home and in the community.

Nursing

Each New Road School has a staff school nurse, whose role is to provide quality health care, medication administration, and intervene with actual and potential health problems. Additionally, the school nurse is a collaborative member of each school's educational team, promoting health and safety in school, at home and in the community. Our nursing staff is also active in helping students build capacity for self-care, and self-advocacy related to health concerns.
